Gigi Hadid is set to make her design debut with Tommy Hilfiger on Friday afternoon, but the 21-year-old model is celebrating the fashion duo’s relationship early.
On Thursday, the beauty stepped into Manhattan’s Park Hyatt hotel for the Daily Front Row’s 4th annual Fashion Media Awards. Hadid slipped into a eye-catching navy and gold-trimmed sequin gown with a plunging, deep-V neckline, and short sleeves. She styled the frock with a loose, wavy ‘do, her now signature black choker, and black heels.
And while her ensemble was worthy of a standing ovation, it’s Hilfiger who received plenty of applause at the event, where the model presented him with the Fashion Visionary of the Year Award. “Tommy has a warmth about him that I think is very, very rare and you can see that he leads by example because everyone who works for him and with him has the same light. And I think that that’s just what it’s all about,” she said. “He makes people feel warm and welcome, and he makes his models feel beautiful.”
For Hilfiger, the honor was nothing but spectacular. “I’m honored, but more than that, Gigi’s words were so touching and we do have a great relationship to the extent that I asked her to design this season’s collection with me,” he said, moving on to dish on her work ethic and how she chose “the buttons, the threads, the colors, the shapes, taught us how to make very high-waist jeans. And she’s been a delight to work with. She’s amazing.”
Talk about a match made in sartorial heaven.
